Tensor chipset was also introduced by Google at the launch of pixel 6 series naming sendri based on TensorFlow. This special chipset from Google has been implanted in pixel 6 and pixel 6 pro.
With the use of Tensor pixel 6 series chipset has a striking difference with the previous pixel series. This is the first time Google has equipped pixels with a homemade chipset called Google Tensor.
This means that Google is leaving Qualcomm which has been immersed in the pixel series.Google CEO Sundar Pichai revealed the Tensor chipset has been developed by the company for four years, the biggest innovation ever embedded in the Pixel line of phones.
"Tensor builds on our two decades of computing experience and is our biggest innovation at Pixel to date. Tensor will be on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro in the fall," Pichai tweeted.
What is a Tensor Chipset?
The name of the chipset itself is based on Google's Machine Learning, Tensor refers to Google's open-source machine learning (ML) programming ecosystem, TensorFlow. TensorFlow is renowned as the most powerful and popular machine learning programming library system.
TensorFlow can be used to develop and train models, to collaborate machine learning in almost all applications, including google photos and Google voice. So it's no wonder that this SoC Tensor will do more processing related to machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) in the Pixel 6 series, especially in the photography and voice sectors.
The first chipset (SoC) made by Google is built on the ARM 8 core (octa core) architecture with 5 nm fabrication. The mobile chip will be equipped with a Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) dedicated to performing AI and ML processing more efficiently, as compiled by The Verge.
A source told media outlet 9to5Google that the Google Tensor chipset, codenamed Whitechapel, was developed jointly with Samsung. While not confirming who the partnership is with, Google's Senior VP Devices &Services Rick Osterloh said tensor is not just an associate processor.
"As with any SoC, we license a lot of technology into it, but this is our design and specifically designed with the goal of pushing our ML and AI forward," Osterloh said in a post on Google's official blog.
The More Advanced Side of Photography and AI
Osterloh boasted, this Tensor chipset will make pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro phones will be more capable. For example, Pixel phones can run a better model of computational photography from Google. For example, pixel 6 series phones will allow users to shoot moving images and get results that remain sharp.
"For users, this means that there will be completely new features, as well as improvements to existing features," Osterloh said.
In addition to the photography sector, Osterloh said, tensor chipset will also help improve the work of voice-to-speech software, voice recognition, and translators. Google Tensor chipset makes Pixel 6 series devices can be translated as well as providing captions from a French video to direct English.
In addition, still according to Osterloh Google also embeds the latest security chipset with the name Titan M2.
"The Titan M2 Pixel 6 Series will be the only smartphone that has hardware-layered security on any phone," Osterloh said.
The report also mentions that this chipset will also be embedded in laptops owned by Google Pixel Books.
